KAPI LTD’s CONTRIBUTION TO #WorldEnvironmentDay

KAPI LTD’s CONTRIBUTION TO #WorldEnvironmentDay

Here at Kapi Limited, we wholeheartedly support the #OnlyOneWorld movement and whilst we may only be a small company, situated here in the heart of Kenya’s Rift Valley, we know that every contribution counts.  Our world needs people to care and to do everything they can to make a difference.  Here are a few of the ways we are trying to make a difference:

ZERO RESIDUE ORGANIC INSECTICIDES:

Kapi Limited is at the forefront in the production and supply of truly natural organic insecticides to both local and export markets.  Our natural pyrethrum insecticides, Flower DS 4EC and Flower Dust are 100% organic and more importantly leave ZERO RESIDUES both on the plants and the soil to which they are applied.  Pyrethrum, being a natural product, is degraded by sunlight and so whilst chemical equivalents will leave their poisonous residues, on our crops, on our plants and in the soil for anything between 14 and 180 days – pyrethrum leaves zero residues after a maximum of 24hrs.  Safer for Food, Safer for the Environment

SOLAR ENERGY:

If there is one thing that we can feel sure of here in Kenya, it is that the sun will shine!  So…. what could be more important than to harvest the sun’s own natural energy and this year we undertook a massive solar project at our factory right in the heart of Nakuru’s industrial area!  By fitting 192 Solar Panels to our factory roof expanse, it is estimated that we should avoid Carbon Dioxide emissions of 76MT each year and make an annual contribution of 147,000kWh to our power….how cool is that!

WATER TREATMENT:

In 2020 Kapi Limited set up its new water treatment plant to ensure that absolutely all wastes discharged by us meet global standards.  We constantly regulate this system and send samples away for external analysis.  We are pleased to say that we have always met and exceeded required standards.

RAIN WATER HARVESTING:

Here in Nakuru, there is an acute year round shortage of water with some of our local residential estates receiving water only 1 day per week – others just 2 or 3 days per week.  To try and alleviate the problem, Kapi Limited harvests rainwater from its roofs and stores it in underground storage tanks to minimize the pressure felt by Nakuru mains water supplier.

PYRETHRUM FACTS

Pyrethrum is a 100% natural and environmentally friendly insecticide. It is broad spectrum, meaning it kills virtually all insects, yet it has very low mammalian toxicity, and is therefore safe for use with humans and most warm blooded animals.
Its application in agriculture is also unique.

As it is 100% natural it can be used as an insecticide in organic farming, and is one of the few insecticides allowed for use in Certified Organic Production of crops in Europe, the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Pyrethrins (the active chemicals in pyrethrum) have been used in insect control for more than 170 years. The commercial production of pyrethrum flowers in Kenya started in 1928.
